"Ugh... I always hate first days of school..." Nick complained, throwing his head against the head rest.
"Oh, come on, dear; first days are supposed to be fun!" His mom answered in a cheery voice as she turned into the school's driveway.
"Yea, but if the teachers decide to choose our seating, then how can I sit with my friends?"
"School isn't always about friends, you know."
"Yea, but I want to be next to someone I know, not some weird guy or talkative girl."
"Beggars can't be choosers." She pulled up the front door, "Now, I hope you have a wonderful day at school, honey!"

As Nick entered the school, he pulled his schedule paper out, reading it rapidly to see which classes were where. He began to wander the halls looking for his first period, but was soon stopped when he bumped into his friend on accident."
"Oh... Hey, it's you!"
"Hey!"
The both slapped a high five. "So, where are you going?" His friend, Zach, asked him.
"Mr. Howard."
"Sweet, we have the same class!"
"Nice!"
They both headed off in the same direction, still searching for the class. As they walked, they both talked about what they did over the summer, what's going to be happening this year and such. Eventually, they found the class and entered the room.
"Sit next to--" Nick was cut short when he saw that the desks had names on them, which told them that they had a seating chart. "C'mon!"
"I know nobody likes seating charts, but it's what makes you a better person by being more social."
Nick took his seat in the worst possible place a child could sit in a class: the front. He slumped himself down, upset about the seating. What was worse was that Zach was sitting about 5 desks behind him, so they couldn't even talk. More children came into the room and took their spots, a lot of them complaining about the seating.
The day went on quite quickly, since it was only the first day of school. Nick and Zach had only 2 other classes together out of 8, which was good enough since they both sat next to each other in them. The day was gone and Nick went home.

The next day came out of nowhere. Nick, grumpy and tired from 'lack of sleep', got up and freshened up for his 2nd day of school. His mom dropped him off and he met up with Zach. Both of them headed off to class to get some quieter conversation. In no time, the bell had rung and children began to pour into the class once more.
"Allllrighty children, let's take roll!" Mr. Howard announced in a cheery voice. He called the names out of the different children in the class, all responding with a 'here'. "Meghan McAfee?" He called out. No answer. "Is Meghan McAfee here today?"
Nick looked around to find an empty desk next to his friend. "No, sir."
"Hmph... Well, it's not like I had anything planned today anyways. Free day, everyone!"
All of the children took a victorious 'yes' and began to turn to their friends and migrating all over the classroom.
Nick noticed that he was his only person he knew in this room. Zach gestured for him to sit in the seat next to him. He got up and moved over to the back of the room, sitting next to his friend.
"At least we have another free day." Zach started off.
"I know, I didn't feel like doing anything today; especially in chemistry."
They both talked for some time before Nick started to feel funny. First, it started with cold sweats, Zach beginning to notice that he was sweating. "Dude, are you hot?"
"I dunno, I guess."
"It's snowing outside and the heater isn't even on."
"I don't know then..."
Nick then began to fidget in his seat, not being able to get comfortable. After a couple of seconds of fidgeting around, he felt that something had gone. He didn't want to explore anything, considering that he was talking to one of his best friends, but he knew something was gone. He began to lose focus on the whole conversation when he could feel different parts of his body change. Beginning with his hands, he stuck them in his sweater's pockets, hiding the now fragile and feminine hands. Next, he felt his stomach shrink in size. He bent over in small pain and played it off as a stomach ache.
Then, his hair started to grow. He started to panic and quickly pulled his hood over his hair. What was weird during this entire time was nobody noticed it, not even Zach. More changes took place underneath his now baggy clothes, which then, began to change.
"Oh man..." Nick thought, on the verge of running out of the room. "What's going on?"
His jacket was the first to go. With his hood disappearing from his head, the thick cloth of his jacket thinned out, turning white and into a stylish jacket. His shirt had changed into a loosely fitting blouse and his pants were already forming a skirt. With his shirt turning pink and his skirt making finishing touches, Nick had turned into a girl right before his friend's eyes.

The bell rung, "All right, children, I'll see you all tomorrow!"
"Oh, well, this class was fast! Hey, I'll see you in 3rd period, Meghan?" Zach said, getting up.
"Meghan?" She looked down at her new self, then back up at Zach. "Did I turn into the girl that wasn't here today?"
"You okay?"
"Yea, yea... I was just... I was lost for a second, sorry."
"Ok. Well, see ya, then!"
"Okay..."
Meghan got up and grabbed her bag, strapping it over her shoulder. As she exited the room, she looked back at the seat, "I guess there's a reason why the teachers have assigned seats..."
She walked out of the room and headed for her next class.
Also, you could take into consideration that:
What if he's in Alaska? Possible chance of it snowing over there in summer.
If he's in the states? There are chances of snow during the summer in northern states.
Heater's not on? What if the heater/air conditioner is broken?
Free day? Some schools may have free days when the teacher has nothing planned for students.
I hate to sound rude, nor do I want to sound aggressive/start an argument, but perhaps you should start to think about things in depth. Think of the different things that could be happening.
Not only is this school putting their students' lives in danger but the teacher didn't even plan anything for the second day? Sounds like even if the heater was working the teacher is lazy.
I know it's just a story (and trust me my stories have magic and stuff in them so I get it...you'll notice I didn't ask why that particular desk made him change but other students moving around to different desks didn't.) but inconsistencies like these with setting can take away from your story.
As with the teacher... Well, perhaps he lost his planner or the school has yet to give the teachers any sort of plans.
But, I'd like to thank you for the feedback and such; it always help with making a better story
